New resistant form of malaria!

600,000 people die annually from malaria!
-
Resistant form of malaria is spreading in Southeast Asia!
The agents are immune to the active agent "Artemisinin"!

The malaria parasite, "Plasmodium falciparum" is becoming increasingly resistant to Artemisinin, the most potent agent against the disease.
-
Researchers have discovered more resistant variants not only in parts of Cambodia, but also on the border between Thailand and Myanmar.
-
This shows that the resistance spreading further to the west and south.
-
There is no success to stem the threatened, the immune against Artemisinin malaria to spread to India and Africa, the international team of scientists warned in two studies that have simultaneously appeared in the magazines "Science" and "The Lancet".
-
It means that we are in a race against time to control malaria in these regions before it spreads further, says study leader, François Nosten Malaria Research Unit of the Shoklo in Thailand.
Should this fail, the consequences are devastating. Malaria already kills hundreds of thousands of people every year!
-
"If our medicines are ineffective, that number could rise dramatically," warns the researcher.
-
The active ingredient Artemisinin is considered to be currently effective weapon against malaria.
Preparations for Artemisinin act faster and have fewer side effects than other anti malarial. "If this form of treatment fail now, there are no alternatives," Anne-Catrin Uhlemann comment and David Fidock of Columbia University in New York. Currently are no new anti malarial ready for the market and to develop other approaches would last at least until the end of this decade.
-
In 2009, in a region in western Cambodia's first cases of malaria have been discovered, no longer responding to treatment with Artemisinin.
Now, researchers have also found these resistant variants 800 kilometers from the region located in Thailand
-
According to the World Malaria Report in 2010, 655,000 people worldwide died from the mosquito-borne tropical disease.
By the bite of insects from entering the exciting, one-celled blood parasites multiply in the blood of the victims and there. This triggers fever, inflammation, and in many cases, death from.
